Shirts from the Kitcat Club

Posted on October 16, 2019 by Caryn Jeffery Leave a Comment on Shirts from the Kitcat Club

My current obsession is with 18th century men’s shirts. The internet can be bottomless pit for OCD costume people like myself. Do you know what I mean? I look up from my computer and hours have passed!

Paintings are, of course, great resources, but I have recently discovered etchings! They require much more precise line work and are a costumer’s friend when you have detail questions.

So to save you some time and because they are just wonderful, here are some of my finds.

These dashing men are all members of the Kitcat Club from the British Museum and the National Gallery of Scotland.

  • Francis Godolphin, Earl of Godolphin, 1712-1714
  • Arthur Maynwaring, Esqr. 1710
  • detail of Francis Godolphin, Earl of Godolphin, 1712-1714
  • detail of Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond
  • John Dormer, Esq., 1705-1710
  • Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, 1703-1710
  • Charles Mohun, Lord Mohun, 1707
