Prussian Uniform Project

My son, Lewis, is obsessed with ancient weapons and military history, so Christmas 2018 I promised to build him an 18th century uniform of his choice.

He decided on the Prussian Army of the Seven Years War.

Coat – Waistcoat – Shirt – Breeches. Seems pretty straightforward, right?

I had this crazy idea that it would be fun to sew something by hand, so I was excited to get started right away on an 18th Century shirt that I assumed we would need.

I looked at some extant examples of linen shirts for inspiration:

Linen shirt from late 18th Century
Linen shirt, 1775-1790 from The Met Museum
Linen shirt, Late 18th-Early 19th C. from Winterthur Museum
Linen & Cotton Shirt 1760-1800 from Winterthur Museum
Man in 18th Century shirt and breeches
Linen shirt, 1740-1780 from V & A Museum
