Completing the Shirt

Posted on October 19, 2019 by Caryn Jeffery Leave a Comment on Completing the Shirt

It took me about 6 weeks to sew this shirt by hand and I am soooooooo proud of it!

  • CB neckline
  • Gathers and gusset at the collar

Like I said in an earlier post, I have learned a lot with this project.

  • Shoulder strap
  • Gathers at cuff

(Sorry, I know these photos are a bit blurry, but hopefully you get the idea.)

Heart reinforcement at the bottom of the center front opening

The shirt turned out to be super long on Lewis and way too full in the front. You can see that I took in the fullness in two seams down the sides of the front.

Also, Lewis was uncomfortable with the neck being so tight, so I used a hook and eye to stretch the closure. Hopefully that is not going to matter under his military stock.

Ordered metal buttons for the cuffs…

and the Dorset buttons for the collar.
